Biography

About me

I have spent the past ten years working with special needs adults in the New Haven, CT area that are part of the Chapel Haven School and community. I teach them how to cook and create healthy delicious foods in cooking classes and one on one in their homes. I love sharing with my clients and students my love of cooking and how good food can make such a difference in your health and happiness. It is so rewarding to see them gain confidence in the kitchen and see their pride in making wonderful meals for themselves that they can enjoy.

Food and cooking have always been a passion of mine. I had been working in restaurants, helping with corporate management, menu design, promotions, and recipes. Then in 2006, I found out I had an inoperable brain tumor. Having young kids and afraid for my future, I started doing a lot of research on health and nutrition. The changes I made started to help me in ways I could not even imagine, and gave me something positive to focus on during this scary time.

Seeing the power of food, I went back to school so I could help others. Once I graduated, my aunt told me about Chapel Haven, a school for special needs adults. I feel so blessed and lucky to be a part of such a warm and close knit community, and to be able to help them through classes and one on one support.

My tumor has not grown since I changed my diet and lifestyle, and has led me down a path I am infinitely grateful for. I have gotten way more out of tumor then it ever got out of me. I did not tell my children about my tumor until they were older so it wouldn’t scare them. Now they want me to share my story so others can see the power we all have to take control of our health
